If you have a piece of equipment with a water connection, it probably needs a filter.

Whether you own a steamer, a combi oven, an ice machine, or whatever piece of commercial equipment that has a water connection or relies on water, you probably need a water filter with the piece(s) of equipment you have. Not only will you save money in the future, but provide consistent results with your piece of equipment.

It’s preventative maintenance.

Although it might sound silly to say that putting a water filter is preventative maintenance. But in a way, it might be the most preventative maintenance you can do with your equipment that needs a water connection.

Even if your municipal water connection might be one of the cleanest in the nation, you’d still filter out impurities from the water supply, reducing the chance of ruining your equipment’s water delivery system. All of us at the Frog still recommend routine maintenance on all of your equipment, but delivering clean water to your, say ice machine, means less time and money having to fix your machine because the machine has no filter.

It’s better for your food.

Would you want to serve food that seems nice, but tastes horrible–just because your dish was steamed with unclean water? Not only can you eliminate mineral-y tastes that’s associated with unfiltered water, but you can prevent the smells associated with it as well.

And this doesn’t involve actual dishes such as entrees and appetizers. It wouldn’t be good if a customer got a soft drink from the fountain machine and thought it tasted funny (especially when soft drinks might be your biggest points of profit).

But a water filter is not a panacea.

Even though you should most definitely get a filter with each piece of equipment that has a water filter, it doesn’t mean it will solve your problems (even Greenamerica.org recommends putting a water filter even if you have a certified clean water supply system). Check your equipment that uses water or uses a water supply and clean deposits and/or impurities as necessary. After all, even NSF-certified water filters might only filter up to 97% of impurities.

When in doubt, have your water source inspected so you can get a detailed report of what is in your water supply.
